Angels

What are angels?  Where do they come from?  Are they divine, were they once loved ones who have passed?  Do I have an angel?  How do I talk to my angels?  What are archangels - who is Michael or Raphael? If angels are real, are demons?

So many questions and so many books.  Here are a few that I have found most helpful in my classes as well as my own personal journey in spiritual consciousness.  I found hundreds and hundreds of books about angelic encounters and experiences, but I wanted to know more the angels themselves, what the word means, how do we experience them, what is the history of angels and human beings (including demons), and how to let them into my life, to help me and bring me closer to Spirit.  So, here is the list of books that I found to be full of information as well as some great stories.

Some of these books overlap with the listing for Spirit Guides and Animal Guides and even Shamanism - that is because Divine Guidance is Divine Guidance, no matter the outer visage of the messenger or Guide that assists us.  The Inner Realms are where we connect with our Inner Guidance, be it Angelic or Shamanic.

If you click on any of the titles on this page, you will go directly to Amazon.com, where you can purchase the book for yourself.  Check them out on Amazon.com and see for yourself!

  • Edgar Cayce on Angels, Archangels, and the Unseen Forces      by Robert J. Grant

This book is a must for anyone who is interested in exploring angels and angelology.  It is the “next step” for those who want to discover angels in their lives, because this book goes beyond the stories of angelic appearances and encounters to a keen new awareness of how angels influence world evolution and one’s own personal psyche. You will explore new research on angels’ roles in personal and planetary karma, the angelic hierarchy, the origin and destiny of Christ, archangels and fallen angels, and the meaning of angels in the Revelation.

Robert Grant understands the Cayce readings and translates them into everyday English (American) so we can all benefit from Cayce's wisdom and insight.  Grant gives us a chance to touch the higher realms and really know how to be part of the angelic realms.

  • The Evolution Angel: An Emergency Physician's Lessons with Death and the Divine        by Todd Michael

    R. Todd Michael was medical director of a level-three trauma center when he had his own brush with death before being saved by the voice of an angel. In this collection of true stories from the emergency room, Dr. Michael relates his experiences with dying patients and the angels that invariably attend these critical rites of passage. Eventually he began communicating with an angel who was sent to aid us in our human evolution.

The “Evolution Angel” provides fascinating lessons, wisdom, and insight into turning our human journey into one where we can not only communicate with the Spirit World, but we can access this otherworldly wisdom in our lives at any moment. Answering questions about the purpose of our lives, life after death, and the nature of our soul, this book is inspirational, poignant, and wise, The Evolution Angel is a guide for everyone who wants to learn about living at the highest level, and is curious about what happens to the soul after we die.

  • Archangels and Ascended Masters     by Doreen Virtue

This is a guide to working and healing with divinities and deities. "Archangels and Ascended Masters" is a thoroughly researched book in a lively encyclopedia format, listing 77 divinities from Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Asian, Babylonian, Tibetan, Buddhist, Celtic, Theosophical, New Age, Catholic, Cabalistic, Jewish, and Christian roots. Doreen Virtue carefully studied and wrote about the history of each of the deities, what role they serve today, how they can help us with specific life problems, and how to call upon each one.

  • Michael: Communicating with the Archangel for Guidance & Protection (Angels Series)      by Richard Webster

Richard Webster has given us 4 books on the main Archangels, Michael, Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel.  Each one has specific details about the history, beliefs, energies and focus on each of these higher order angelic beings.  Each one has great details about how to set up an angel alter, use crystals and candles and colors for each one, as well as many wonderful anecdotal stories about encounters with the Archangel of choice.

In this book - Michael is considered the greatest angel in the Christian, Judaic, and Islamic traditions. Throughout the ages, he has appeared as a protector, a messenger, a guide, a warrior, and a healer. In Michael, Richard Webster presents a thorough history of this famous archangel and offers simple techniques for contacting him.

  • Raphael: Communicating with the Archangel for Healing & Creativity (Angels Series)    by Richard Webster

A social worker finds sudden relief from a mysterious illness.  A confused student discovers her true passion.  A guilt-ridden widow reconnects with her daughter. These and other true stories, recounted by Richard Webster in Raphael, demonstrate the positive, healing impact this wise and benevolent archangel has had on countless lives. Whether your pain is physical or emotional, the archangel Raphael - also known as the Divine Physician - can help.

  • Working with your guides and angels   by ruth white

In this book Ruth White shares her own amazing story as well as drawing on the stories of others to help explain the purpose of these special beings, how to identify and communicate with them, and what to expect from them. The easy-to-follow exercises demonstrate how to recognize and communicate with a spirit guide, ask the right questions and receive the right answers, work with dreams and intuition, and guard against false guidance, helping to illuminate one’s path to inner wisdom.

  • The Encyclopedia of Angels by Rosemary Ellen Guiley

"What we know about angels," writes Rosemary Ellen Guiley, "comes through our otherworldly contact with them."

Some might think of angels as our human pathway to the monotheistic God of our Western culture--a God who remains abstract and remote. All major cultures and religions, however, have intricately developed angel systems. Guiley covers all--comparing angels to analogous beings in non-western cultures in order to trace their evolution. The book is arranged alphabetically by topic, so readers can look up subjects such as angel hierarchy, individual angels, Judaic angelology, the supernatural manifestations of the Virgin Mary, and even--God forbid--sex with demons.

The Encyclopedia of Angels is thoroughly researched and pleasantly illustrated with photographs of sculpture and reproductions of some of the great medieval, Renaissance, and contemporary works of "angel" art.
I found it to be an excellent resource, full of information and historical references.

  • A Dictionary of Angels, Including The Fallen Angels    by Gustav Davidson

The result of sixteen years of research in Talmudic, gnostic, cabalistic, apocalyptic, and legendary texts, the classic reference work on angels is beautifully illustrated and its reissue coincides with the resurgence of belief in angels in America.

This book has more information than most in this field.  If you ever stopped and wondered about the most minute of details about the angelic hierarchy, or maybe the name of a figure in the bible, or what exactly those angels that are in the 7th heaven are referred to, this is the book for you.  An excellent reference book.  Every theologian, occultist, and pious scholar should have this addition to their library. Virtually every angel, spirit, devil, and lowly demon is named and defined. It also includes a vast list of alternate spellings and comparisons between the mysterious spirits.

  • Encyclopedia of Angels   by richard Webster

Angels lend comfort and strength in times of difficulty, bring our lofty goals down to earth, and set our spirits soaring toward the divine. No matter what spiritual path you travel, the angels are there to offer guidance and inspiration along the way.

International best-selling author and angel expert Richard Webster presents this alphabetically-arranged book of angels, a collection of over 500, hailing from diverse traditions, cultures, and belief systems all over the world. A snapshot of each angel’s traits, abilities, and specialties illustrates the myriad ways in which these heavenly helpers can deepen your spiritual practice and enrich your life.
