Thelma B. Freedman(1930-2011)

Dr. Thelma Freedman, M.A. is an “old-timer” in past-life therapy. She joined
APRT (now IARRT) in 1982 and served on the Board of Directors as well as the
Research committee. She has been (at various times) Assistant Editor,
Associate Editor, and Editor of the Journal, and is now a Contributing Editor.
She was a founding member of The International Board of Regression Therapy
(IBRT) and became President after the passing of Dr. Russell Davis in 1998; she later became the Secretary/Treasurer. Thelma practiced hypnotherapy and past-life
 regression therapy in New York  for about 30 years.  In 2002 she retired to spend more time writing her books. But when things got stale she wrote poetry about PLT.

Thelma B. Freedman, PhD., 81, of Beach Road, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, in the Extended Care Facility of the Oneida Healthcare Center, where she had been a patient for the past five and one-half months.

Born in Oswego, on Jan. 28, 1930, she was the daughter of Dr. Howard and Thelma Hord Beach and was raised in Oneida in her youth. Thelma graduated from Drew Academy, received her bachelors degree from State University at New Paltz , and her masters and doctorate degrees from Saybrook University. Thelma married David C. Freedman in New York City on Jan. 5, 1957, and they resided in Monroe, N.Y. for many years, returning to this area in 1987.

Dr. Freedman was a psychologist and hypnotherapist in Orange County and later in Oneida and Fayetteville. She was past president and journal editor for the International Association for Regression Research and Therapy and had a great love for cats, classical music and reading mystery novels.

I met Thelma in 1998, at a past life workshop at Cazenovia College.  I was just at the very beginning of my training with past life regression therapy.  We spoke of the work and training and options and she was very generous with her time and experience.  It was incredibly fortunate to meet her and work with her in the beginning of my career in past life regression.  She became my first mentor, professional guide and a good friend. She guided my steps into IBRT and beyond.  Throughout my career she was always there to offer strength, guidance, friendship and support as a professional role model, and as a friend. When I began to put together a training program for IBRT, she offered support and suggestions,  with encouragement to keep going forward when I felt shaky.  That is what I will miss most - sharing her wisdom and encouragement.  In my heart I know she is not really gone, she is just somewhere else for a little while. But, the sadness at her passing is very real and to her family and loved ones I send light and blessings and gratitude for sharing her with the rest of us!  I am so fortunate and grateful that she was part of my life.
